Week 4 Day 4: Success

Feeling back to my self today. Woke up to late to workout but was able to update the blog. I have been going around and around in my head on how hard it is to workout daily. I was thinking earlier that once it became more routine it would be easier. No, for me it is still challenging. So far the diet during the week hasn’t been that bad. Mainly just cut out lunch everyday and not over due it at dinner seems to be working. I do not mention it in the diet but I have been taking a multivitamin daily. The diet has not been so drastic that it is taxing me mentally yet. When I tried Keto it was pretty hard. I felt awful and had a some bad headaches as my body was adjusting to life without carbs. That lasted just over a week and it was not for me.

Today I caught back up at work with our superintendent who was on vacation. He is back into the project now and ready to bring it home. Welcomed relief as the #2 was keeping the status quo while we were down a man. Commissioning is going well and we are on our way to demobilizing almost everyone. Continued estimating today, it went pretty well.

Flag football got canceled again. The storms just keep on rolling in after lunch and canceling our events. I picked up both kids today. Tonight I made homemade beef tacos. In my tacos we do not use the packet seasoning and add a medium salsa and cook the moisture down while in the pan. We use soft taco shells with lettuce, tomato, cheese, refined beans and jalapeños. Chips were on the side but abstained from eating any. I pre made and rolled 6 meat and bean tacos up and froze them with the leftovers. Still some meat left to add to a spaghetti sauce so I froze it for later. After settling my belly for a couple of minutes and watching an episode of “Wild Kratts” with my littlest I headed downstairs. The brewers were just starting. They are 1 1/2 games back behind the Cubs for the pennant. It’s exciting times right now watching them as we head into post season play. Workout consisted of bench, tricep pulldowns and ab crunches with some time on the treadmill. Stayed up late watching the brewers. Brewers won!

Diet:

  • Breakfast – bagel w/ cream cheese, yogurt, orange juice
  • Lunch. – protein shake, string cheese, small bag of gardetto chips
  • Dinner. – 2 tacos
  • Snack. – nothing

Workout:

  • Bench press – 1 set of 12x135lbs 3 sets of 10×185 lbs
  • Triceps pulldowns – 3 sets of 12x55lbs
  • Ab crunches. – 3 sets of 50
  • Treadmill. – 20 min walk

Week 4 Day 3: Stat Day

9-24-18 Today I was still feeling the aftermath of drinking heavy on the weekend. (Note to self – STOP!) Needless to say a morning workout did not happen. Mornings are hard to get up and going if the prior nights sleep is not close to perfect. The dog has been panting heavily and wanting to go outside in the middle of the night. Feel bad for him and take him out when he needs to. Poor guy is on his last leg. Literally he tore his ACL 3 months ago and is lamed up on one leg. 12 years old and just cannot justify spending a lot on getting it fixed. Hoped he would adjust and come around. Not looking good, figure come winter it will be a sad good bye to an ole dear friend. On another note, I found out right before bed my Grandpa’s house sold and am losing my deer hunting spot sooner than I anticipated.

Work was decent, had our bi-weekly PM meeting and started some estimating for work starting in the spring. I do not currently have a back log of work coming up and this is a welcomed opportunity.

Picked up the oldest from after school care and made dinner tonight. We had leftovers. I had leftover cheeseburger and chips. Not the best choice but I was feeling weak today. Weighed myself and not much of a change this week, down 1.6lbs. Did a lot of hydrating this evening trying to get my pH levels back in balance. Played catch with my youngest until dark and watched Monday might football / Brewers. It was stuffy in the house and took awhile for the fans to cool the bedroom down to an acceptable level to sleep.

Diet:

  • Breakfast – bagel w/ cream cheese, yogurt, orange juice
  • Lunch. – protein shake, trail mix
  • Dinner. – cheeseburger on a bun, chips, dip, milk
  • Snack. – G2 Gatorade

Workout:

  • Playing catch

New side Goal – LOSE 3 LBS THIS WEEK.

Week 4: Days 1-2: The Weekend is back.

I mentioned earlier that I was going to work out on the weekends. 1 of 2 days is not to shabby. Saturday morning came and we had egg and bagel sandwiches. Afterwards I headed downstairs to do a workout. The wife ran to Target for whatever people need at that wonderful money taking store. The weights came into play this morning. Some lat pull downs, shoulder raises and curls. Followed by what I consider a monster treadmill session. Had a little hiccup with the treadmill as the controls locked up and I had to momentarily turn it off and on to reset it. Anyway pushed through that and had a solid 30 min work out with 8 min run in the middle.

After the workout the kids and I went to West Marine to get an oil filter and power steering fluid for the boat. Today is the day that I changed the oil, empty it out and get the boat winterized for the season. I had some fenders to return but did not have the receipt. I was in the system and got a credit back for $65.00 that was awesome.

Winterized the boat and James had a play date with a neighbor boy. Fed James and Sam lunch after the play date and mowed the lawn. Showered and prepared for the next outing. I took both of them to the big grocery store to by our pantry items. For the most part they did ok and got to pick their own juice boxes. Afterwards we came home, grilled out cheeseburgers and chicken breasts. Susan was at an all day outing with her mom and sisters. So me and the boys got the fire pit and movie projector ready to watch the Badger football game outside.

Come dusk I turned the game on and one of my buddies stopped by for the first half. He is one of my old time friends and we have been drinking and partying since high school. We set a fairly wicked pace for a little bit. I made s’mores for the kids and they played flashlight tag for a while and then I put a movie on inside for them. Susan came home around 3rd quarter and other people had showed up by then. She was tired and did not hangout. After the game I picked up and passed out.

Diet:

  • Breakfast – bagel with egg, cheese, tomato.
  • Lunch. – Raman noodles
  • Dinner. – cheeseburger, chips
  • Snack. – 20 bud lights. (Lost count)

Workout:

  • Lat Pulldowns – 3 sets of 10x100lbs
  • Lateral dumbbell raises – 3 sets of 12x20lbs
  • Ez curls – 3 sets of 12×85 lbs.

So I thought it would be a wonderful idea to have an 8:15 tee time at the golf course Sunday morning. I wake up feeling the effects of last night some. After a shower and moving around a little I’m off to the links. Today its my buddy who was over last night, his dad and dads friend fill out the foursome. A vodka orange juice was much needed and help calm the nerves by the 2nd hole. Except that pretty much got me going back to where I left off last night. A couple beers later and shooting a meager 53 we decide to head over to another course that is throwing an Octoberfest celebration. They guys stick around for a couple and leave. My neighbors show up and the wife brings down the kids. They play in the bouncy house and this hammer game, eat lunch and listen to some music while the Packers are on. We leave after a while and head back to the house. The wife tells me to go take a nap and recuperate so I can function this after noon. I oblige.

4:00 comes and I am a pile. I told my son that we would have ribs tonight so I muster enough strength to get out of bed and fire up the grill. Cook the ribs low and slow for 2 1/2 hours and there turned out fabulous. We play catch outside for a few minutes while the kitchen is being picked up. Afterwards we turn on Sunday night football and watch for a little bit. Everyone was tired and in bed around 8:30.

Diet:

  • Breakfast – two granola bars
  • Lunch. – brat and 1/2 a fresh pretzel
  • Dinner. – ribs, smashed potatoes, corn
  • Snack. – vodka orange juice, 3 bud lights, 2 Octoberfest beers

Workout:

  • Golf 9 holes

Week 3 Day 7: It’s Friday.

Friday is here and I meant to get a morning workout in but that didn’t happen. Still have a fast food hangover from last night. Culver’s put me into a food coma.

Not much to report today. Went to work, came home and we had a XLNY Papa Murphy’s pizza for dinner. Nice thin crust and light on the toppings. We had movie night downstairs. Started with Teen wolf and had to change the channel as PG ratings in the 80’s is not the same as in the 2000’s. This was not appropriate for my kids. Changed it to Goonies and the youngest thought it was scary. Settled on THOR – Ragnarok which we have seen 6 times. Wife made the s’mores pizza from Papa Murphy’s. I abstained from eating any.

Diet:

  • Breakfast – Bowl of Honey bunches of oats, milk
  • Lunch. – Protein shake, string cheese, trail mix
  • Dinner. – 2 slices of pizza
  • Snack. – 4 bud lights

Workout:

  • None

Movie night

Week 3 Day 6: Feeling Better

Looks like the cold was short lived. Woke up feeling much better. Headed downstairs and hit the treadmill before work for 25 minutes. No running today just a steady walk.

It was meeting day at work. I get to participate in four of them. A budget review, new project call in with a client and in the afternoon two calls on projects that I am managing.

We had a flag football game this afternoon. Kids did a great job and walked away with a win. For the most part they have it together. I need to pull a couple kids aside this week and give them some extra reps on offense. One of the kids might be autistic or special needs and the parents haven’t said anything but he is not quite on the same level. Not sure how I address that. Dinner was Culver’s cheeseburgers and fires. So good but not so much for a diet. Watched some Thursday night football before bed.

Diet:

  • Breakfast – Bagel w/ cream cheese, yogurt, orange juice
  • Lunch. – Milio skinny sub
  • Dinner. – Cheeseburger, fries

Workout:

  • Treadmill 25 mins.

Week 3 Day 5: First cold

Yep, I have a little head cold thing going on. Word around there is a virus that is mimicking allergies making its way through the population right now. Not to mention the kids are in school now for their 3rd week. Slept in and rested this morning.

Work was blahhh. Took a Claritin at lunch and it helped take some of the sinus pressure off. Started coughing a little more today, a throat lozenge helped. I am hopeful this the extent of the cold and I can keep on trucking my way to being fit. I dislike being sick and from previous experiences it usually knocks any fitness plan back a little as you need to recover before you can get back what you gained.

Tonight we ate light. Mixed green salad that I prepared with chicken pieces and fresh oven heated bread. Everyone but the little one thought it was great. After clean up of the dishes it was back downstairs. This time though I find myself in the laundry room staring at the dryer. It was been making some god awful screeching and it was time to address the problem. Fixings things is not a problem, the question is “do I want to”? Um No. Being that it is no spend September at our house. We are not paying a technician to repair it. I watch a couple of YouTube videos on dryer troubleshooting and I am off to dismantling. 20 minutes later problem is solved and I order a replacement Part from Amazon. Should be here Friday. We can probably guess what’s going to happen Friday night….Rewarded myself with a 7 & 7(Seagrams 7 whiskey-seven up) while watching the Brewers beat up on the Reds. Head to bed around 9:00.

Diet:

  • Breakfast – bagel w/ cream cheese, yogurt, orange juice
  • Lunch. – protein shake, string cheese, banana
  • Dinner. – salad w/ cheese, green pepper, tomato, chicken, avocado, bread
  • Snack. – 7&7 drink

Workout:

  • Nothing

Week 3 Day 4: Losing steam

Today I woke up and headed downstairs. Workout consisted of bench press and sit ups with a ride on the stationary bike. Muscles were week and did not push myself on the bench. More or less hung out and watched tv in the basement at 5:00 in the morning. Good thing I do not hashtag otherwise it would be something like this. #toearlytoworkout. #basementcouchpotato.

Work was boring. I was fidgety all morning and my nose started to run a little. Started to get a tickle in the back of my throat. Took a multivitamin and some ibuprofen which seemed to help.

Tonight at flag football was picture night. Wore my packer t-shirt so I would match the team in the photo. Kids did not want to listen tonight. They wanted to run around and play grab ass with each other. But they wanted to scrimmage the team we were sharing the field though. Needless to say that got waxed and didn’t understand why. Got home and had a big plate of spaghetti with a meat and green pepper sauce. Was delicious. We had some bread but I was not really feeling like the extra carbs. Drank two beers and by then it was time for bed. Fell asleep watching the brewers lose a close one to the Reds.

Diet:

  • Breakfast – bagel w/ cream cheese, yogurt, orange juice
  • Lunch. – protein shake, string cheese, banana
  • Diner. – spaghetti with sauce
  • Snack. – 2 bud lights
  • Workout:
    • Bench Press – 3 sets 10x135lbs
      Sit-ups – 3 sets of 50
Bike. – 5 mins (counts down from 20)
  • Week 3 Day 3: Stat Day

Today I woke up refreshed after going to bed early. I am thinking that the weekends will be slowing down now that we are approaching fall. I head downstairs to workout. Not feeling like hitting the weights today so I walk on the treadmill until it is time to get changed and ready for work.

Work was boring. Had protein shake and trail mix for lunch at my desk after I ran to Dicks Sporting Goods to have my drivers club head re-glued.

Tonight for dinner we had hot ham sandwiches and proceeded to head back downstairs and walked for a while on the treadmill as Monday Night Football Started. Finished the night off on the couch watching the Brewers beat up on the Reds. Bears / Seahawks game was not interesting me, and was slow to start. Weighed my self tonight and I am down another 1lb and .1 BMI. That is 4.3 lbs from starting this. I am going to try and get my weekend more in check with my week to help get better gains. I am at less than a 1% difference since the beginning.

    Diet:

    • Breakfast – Bagel with cream cheese, yogurt,
    • Lunch. – Protein shake, trail mix
    • Dinner. – Hot ham and cheese sandwich, plain chips, French onion dip, milk
    • Snack. – 2 bud lights.

    Exercise:

    • Treadmill walk 30 mins
    • Treadmill walk 20 mins
  • Week 3 Day 1-2: The Weekend Comes Again.

Saturday started out slow. Everyone slept in a little from being out Friday night and the kids staying up later than normal with the babysitter. Managed to make eggs and bacon before everyone started off for the day.

The wife ran to target in the morning to get gifts for our youngest’s back to back birthday parties he was invited to in the afternoon. I gave Sam a bath to get him clean before he heads out with mom later. Afterwards the kids and I head outside, it was a beautiful sunny and 80 degree day. Garage is a mess and I start rounding up Sumer items that we might not use again and start taking them into the garage attic. While I am up there I come across our jogging stroller, umbrella stroller, child bike trailer, and a tricycle. I take all of this down and get it ready for the wife to sell on the local facebook site. I throw in our tag-a-log bike also as our kids both can ride without training in wheels. I keep plugging away at the garage and it is looking quite immaculate I’d have to say. The kids have lunch as I am finishing up.

Just after lunch Susan and Sam head for the parties, James and I get in the truck and head for the boat club to check the water levels. We have not been able to boat on the local lakes for over a month because of the high water from record rainfall in the area. We stop at the Italian deli to get my favorite sub but they are sold out. I settle for the next best one, an Otto, which will be ok too. James gets a cookie at the register and is content. The club is back open. It was previously sandbagged all around and the doors taped incase water levels got to high. I turn on the Badger game in the big room and eat my sub. While we are not there for 10 minutes and here comes my father in law. We chat for the first quarter of the game and then time to head out. The grocery store was on our list of things to do today. We head to the hipster store and grab the necessities and I let James pick out dinner. He choose the salmon at the meat counter. I get 1.5 lbs from the fish monger and we check out.

Back at home I get groceries put away. Susan is just getting back from the parties and is up to whatever. The boys have settled a little and are watching wild Kratts. I turn on the rest of the badger game in the garage and Stuart watching from the workbench. It’s not long and I decide that the game will be much more enjoyable with a beer. Voila, one miraculously appears from the mini fridge underneath. The Badgers are sucking and Susan comes out followed by the kids shortly afterwards. Susan grabs a white clam, oh I mean claw and sits on the other stool. The children grab camp chairs and we are all watching the Badger game in the garage. I turn on a box fan to add some breeze. Air conditions is on in the house and we have a bigger TV inside, but everyone seems to be enjoying the game here. Badgers kicker attempts to tie the game with less 1 minute to go in the fourth and misses. Badgers lose, they played like crap and the better team won.

Tonight the line up for dinner is the salmon which I will be grilling. I am also attempting to grill eggplant slices too. We warm up some fresh bread in the oven. Salmon was delicious, the eggplant was so so. It looked great with the grill marks and all but the moisture content was just to high and it got soggy. Everyone tried it and we moved on. Wife had a glass of white wine as we cooked and talked. I stuck with the bud lights.

After dinner was cleaned up everyone got into their comfy clothes and we streamed “Solo”. The kids had some popcorn and played with Star-wars figures a little as the movie played.

    Diet:

    • Breakfast – eggs, bacon, toast
    • Lunch. – Round sub sandwich, Pepsi
    • Dinner. – Salmon, eggplant, bread
    • Snack – pretzels, 5 bud lights

    Exercise:

    • Clean garage
  • Sunday morning I had a tee time for 7:20. This is the first time I golfed 18 straight holes. My golfing partner decided to tear it up on Saturday and was in no condition to play a round. So it was myself and two older gents in their late 50’s-early 60’s. We had some good conversation and had some industry in common. Overall I did not golf the best I could have. I think i should have had more than 1 bud light to loosen me up a little. Ended up with a couple of good drives, less than great approach shots and putting was ok. I parred 2, had bogeys on another 2 and the rest well…
  • I stopped by my missing partners house to see if he was up yet just before 12:00. Shared 3 beers with him and watched the 1st quarter of the Packer / Viking game. Came home made a tuna sandwich and rested on the couch. Dozed off for about 20 minutes before halftime. Golfing the 18 in 85 degree heat wore me out. James had a friend over in the afternoon and I retired upstairs to finish watching the game while the kiddos played. After the game I was back outside picking up dog shit and toys in order to mow. I trimmed the edges and mowed the lawn.
  • For dinner we made grilled cheeseburgers and hotdogs on the grill. Finishing the evening out with Sunday night football and baths for the kids. All 4 of us were tired and no one complained about calling it quits early. It was quite a busy weekend. Besides the McDonald’s I feel like I was conscientious of what was getting eaten and stayed active. Hope the scale proves me right tomorrow.
  • Diet:
    • Breakfast – bacon egg and cheese biscuit, hash brown, orange juice from McDonalds
Lunch. – tuna sandwich on toast, plain chips, water
Dinner. – cheeseburger, baked beans, French fries
Snack. – 4 bud lights, string cheese

    Workout:

    • Golf 18 holes

    Week 2 Day 7: Friday

Big plans today. We have night golf at the local course. But first I need to make it through the work day. Work was pretty busy, got a lot of minor issues resolved and felt pretty caught up heading into the weekend.

We arranged for the babysitter to arrive at 5:45 so we could go over the details and head out by 6:00 to get checked in to the event. I have never done night golf and the neighbors asked if we wanted to couple up for the event. Our neighbor is a chamber member and had the inside scoop on the details. We ate some loaded fries before going out on the course. I also ordered a wine for the wife and bud light for myself. They serve 16 oz silos at the course, lucky me. Needless to say I eat the fries and have 2 silos before we even get into the cart. Now I am a little fluid logged and full. Skipping lunch lately has affected my stomach intake a little and the belly was feeling it. We chit chatted with another younger couple who are first timers too. Then off to the races as it was a shotgun start. The sky was just getting to dusk when we tee’d off. My first hit, off to the right into the rough. Then the mosquitos came. Everyone needed to double dose with bug spray to keep them at bay. I am thinking this is not going to go well hitting into the dark and getting Eaton alive. 2nd hole it finally got dark enough to see the glow in the dark golf balls stand out. The mosquitos infestation subsided and things went much better. The young couples other 1/2 of their foursome had to cancel and they were golfing by themselves. Hole 3 we asked them to join and they were ok to hang with. Everyone golfed, listened to music and talked the rest of the way. After golf we headed back to the club house for free snacks and another beer. I asked the young guy to come to the bar as they have mystery shots and that seemed like a great idea. We got home about 11:00. I would do it again.
